Ships Ahoy!

It was another beautiful weekend spent in the Thousand Islands with family. On Saturday, we visited our favorite beach, Canoe Point State Park and traveled back through the International Rift. This is becoming a pattern that will be hard to break – we find something new to love each trip through.

We also took time to admire some ships traveling along the channel. This certainly makes our small town feel a little more worldly as we imagine where the ships traveled from, where they are going, and what they could be transporting. You can follow St. Lawrence Seaway Ship Watchers on Facebook to see what I am talking about.

Sunday we got a chance to adventure. We did some swimming at Canoe Point, the beach is typically very toddler friendly, but the water was quite a bit rougher and there were significantly more weeds arriving on shore. So off we went, in search for lunch and ice cream. We parked at the public docks at the Thousand Island Park on Wellesley Island (https://www.tiparkcorp.com/)

After a difficult, and windy, parking experience, we went to explore. First stop was the AMAZING (yes, amazing) playground. The playground had the perfect balance of activities for all ages. It was well maintained and clean, and we were lucky enough to be one of only two families playing at the time. Off our son went, exploring the sand box, the slides and all the other fun things.

After working up an appetite, we continued up the hill to The Wellesley Hotel Restaurant, to enjoy some delicious, homemade pizza on a socially distanced porch. The white pizza was our favorite (the leftovers did not even make it all the way back to the marina).

Next, we made a pit stop at The Guzzle, next door to the Hotel Restaurant, for some ice cream. The not-so-small small for $2.00 was plenty for us, and we enjoyed flavors such as Mint Chip, Strawberry Cheesecake and Peanut Butter Pie.

After spending time outside at these different venues on the Island, we realized how absolutely idyllic it is. Most people travel by golf cart and the historic charm truly gives one the sense that you might be in a Hallmark movie. I have a feeling we will be frequenting the area more often. You can reach Wellesley Island by boat, or by car crossing the Thousand Islands Bridge, which is an adventure on its own!

Looking up at the darkening sky, we decided to head back to Carnegie Bay Marina, where we dock our boat. We made it back before the storm and headed home for another week.

Where should we adventure next? Submit your ideas in the comments section and we will continue to explore!
