Around the Corner - Boldt Castle

It is easy to forget what is right in our backyard… including the beautiful Boldt Castle on Heart Island. Located around the corner from Carnegie Bay Marina, Boldt Castle is open during the summer season and welcomes you for tours through the Castle and the Yacht House. There are docks for boaters, as well as many shuttle services from local tour lines.

Although the Castle’s history is full of heartache, you can see the love poured into every detail of the Island. Starting construction in 1900, and tragically ending in 1904, no expense was spared by millionaire George Boldt. From the views, to the gardens, to the 120 rooms, this is the perfect place to spend an afternoon. There is a mobile app to utilize their walking tour, in addition to the many informational placards located around the property. Hungry? There is a café & hot dog stand with options for everyone. We took a break from our tour to enjoy ice cream while admiring the view from one of the many benches and picnic tables available. Two ships even passed by the island during our trip!

We would recommend planning your visit for 2-3 hours to fully appreciate the property. This fairytale castle has much to explore, including the Yacht House across the water on Wellesley Island. Make sure to save time for this gem, you will not be disappointed! Even if you are local, or have visited the Castle before, don’t underestimate its grandeur and charm. Plan your trip to Boldt Castle today!

Carnegie Bay Marina offers a newly constructed boat launch and transient docking to serve as the perfect home base for your Thousand Islands adventures!
